Guess who’s not dead? – And the long awaited Chapter 19

Hi everyone!

So, I’m alive. I’m sure some of you probably suspected that Cae was just covering up the fact that I died in a ditch somewhere and that was the reason why Chapter 19 wasn’t coming out even though it was almost finished.

Truth be told, my motivation totally fell. Don’t ask me why. I have no good explanation to give you. The only reason why I could get myself back to doing this was Cae’s constant checking in on me, so… you know who to give your thanks to xD.

Interestingly enough, exactly a year from the day I-almost-killed-myself-with-the-yam, the huge earthquakes happened in Kumamoto. This was two days ago. I’m not sure how many of you saw the news.

I’m actually really close to Kumamoto. The earthquakes were big enough that things shook and fell over. I was going to make a funny post pointing out the fact that April 15th seems like an unlucky day for me in Japan so far, but truth be told, it was scary (not terrifying but still scary) to the point where I don’t know how to make it funny. xD

Originally, we had planned to release Chapter 19 (which Cae babysat me into finishing last week) on Friday, but the Earthquakes (because there have been more than 100 of them I hear… and that doesn’t surprise me. I’ve been feeling them constantly over the past 3 days. It’s gotten to the point where it’s amusing and annoying rather than scary now), happened. So here is the chapter, days (months) late. Sorry…

xD. I’ll try and be better next time. I think I’ll be okay to translate as long as I don’t do it before Cae cleans the pages… >.<

Anywho. It’s been a while, but because of the leecher problem we had last year, Cae and I have decided that we’ll release Ch 19 in the password-protected pages of this website for now. 24 hours later, we’ll release it onto manga aggregate sites as well as our unlocked online reader.

Months later…

Hi all!

I’m alive! Surprisingly. Man do I have stories for you. For example, I was the last to leave school recently. I left at 11:30pm… so I had to lock the gates. It was… an experience for sure. I never thought I would have a 16 hour work day… but that’s Japan for you xD.

As I was locking up, one of the gates started squealing like a pig being murdered.

My school’s in the middle of a residential area, and so the whole time I was dragging the heavy metal gate into place, I was fervently praying, “please hurry and close… and please don’t call the cops on me. I swear I’m not killing anyone…”

As soon as it was shut, I chained it up really quickly and bolted for it xD.

Midnight Sun Chapter 17 Released!

Hi Everyone,

So… I’m pretty reluctant to post right now. Partly because I just finished typesetting everything and splicing some pages and stuff, and partly because I suspect some of you are out there sharpening your pitchforks and other weaponry at my having ditched you for months…

I feel like Homer. xD

School is awesome, but exhausting. I’ve been working with my kids on their speeches. They’re gearing up to compete against each other soon. Unfortunately, I’m going to miss their performance because I’ll be flying off to Osaka (again) to meet up with my friends. It’s kind of crazy and tiring for an indoor-sy girl like me xD.

So, some of you (who actually read the words C and I write) know that the reason I’ve been MIA for a while is because my brother was living with me for a couple of months. It was a blast, and also really draining. Still, when he left, I felt so, so depressed.

The day I saw him getting into a taxi to leave, I had to go to school. So I sat at my desk, teary and so very sad for a long, long time. My co-workers and friends would ask me what was wrong and I almost burst into tears. Thankfully, I didn’t actually cry in front of my students. xD

I wanted to greet you all with a happy post, but I can’t think of any super hilarious stories right now. Lots of things happened though, that I’d like to share eventually xD.

For example, I got bitten by a mukade (a super poisonous caterpillar centipede – C very nicely corrected me. I’ve been in Japan too long. I’ve forgotten my English lololol xD – that can apparently kill a small animal or an infant). Luckily for me, the mukade that bit me was small. But HOLY HELL it hurt like &@!#!!!!
I cried like a baby. This was weeks ago and still I have a scar from where its fangs pierced my skin.

I would post a picture of a mukade here, but I figure some of you are like me and would need to tab out hahaha. If you’re curious… google is your friend. <3. Unless you’re in China. In which case, Google is non-existent. Yay for internet censorship -_-…

ANYWHO. That was a long tangent. The most important part is…

Cae and I finally sat down to work. And now we bring you Chapter 17! It’s the start of a brand-new volume~ And we finally get to see more of the Assassination-arc that Toshimi-sensei has been building up.

At the same time, we’re getting closer to the (discontinued) ending. Hm… wonder what we should do after that… o.O Any suggestions? (Preferably with raws already available xD).

Quick update on our (non) progress

Hi everyone!

I’m so sorry that we haven’t added more chapters in a long time. Let me start off by saying it is NOT Cae’s fault. It’s all mine xD. My brother’s staying with me for 2 months (it’s been a month in already, so a month left to go) and so there’s been no free time to work on Midnight Sun.

I’ve already told Cae that most likely we’ll be able to start up again (and I promise to blitz through at least two chapters worth of translations if Cae’s willing to put  up with the workload) early next month.

‘Til then, there won’t be any updates. Sorry!

… You could always try and beg Cae to translate for you? xD

Interlude – Jackie’s funny story! (Nothing to do with Midnight Sun. Sorry!)

Hi all!

Sorry, recently we’ve been bogging you down with our clash with leechers (I don’t mean the readers on mangafox, mangago, or anything. NOT THE READERS. I mean the people who take the work and upload it without first asking for our opinion. I mention this because I wrote a long comment to a person who was under the impression that Cae and I were against readers on aggregate sites. We’re not, I promise. I’m one of those readers myself xD).

We’ll figure something out. And I promise we’ll try our best to finish translating the manga to where the mangaka dropped it.

Any who! I wasn’t intending on complaining about the people complaining about us. No, this is just a funny story that happened on Monday xD.

Here it goes:

So, I don’t know how many of you know this, but I can’t cook to save my life.　It’s kind of like this actually:

Yes. Even as I live alone in a foreign country. The best I can do is curry xD. And that takes me hours haha. But yes. Cannot cook to save my life. And ironically, this might have been literal o.O. And I don’t mean “literally” as in “figuratively”. I mean “literally” “literal”. You’ll get what I mean as you read.

So, Monday, I come back to my place (an old, but kinda cute once you get over all the downsides of it, Japanese apartment suite… thing. Maybe I’ll post a picture one day). It’s late and I’m like “Cook……?”

So I had this brilliant idea. I had bought yams. And my mother always used to nuke them in the microwave. So I thought, “YAY, have a plan for dinner!”

And I covered the yam with a damp paper towel, placed it on a plate, and nuked it for 10 minutes. It smelled soooo good. I took it out as soon as it beeped its ready-ness. But as I was drooling over my dinner, I realized that the bottom half wasn’t cooked thoroughly. So I tossed it back in for 5 minutes.

And then… yeah… um… yeah…

There was this annoying beeping and I was like “ooookay…”

And then of course I caught the smell of smoke.

….

…..

…..

…

Yeah. I go and take a look and lo and behold… black smoke is billowing out of the crack between the microwave door and the microwave itself. So like a genius my first instinct is to yank the microwave door open.

And then…

Meanwhile, the alarms are going off like crazy. So I’m tearing up and coughing like mad as the alarms blare at me deafeningly. I toss all the windows and doors open, and gasp through the screen doors like a dying fish xD.

As my eyes are stinging and I’m gasping for breath, and inhaling the black smoke, I kept thinking “omg this is so funny. And scary. But so funny. I almost killed myself using a microwave…”

And then the skype notification goes off. So like the sane person I am, I don’t leave the smoke-filled building and I plop down at my computer and read Cae’s message.

The conversation that followed is HILARIOUS. Simply because I was telling C about how I almost engineered my own demise and Cae was totally focused on our problem with the leecher.

Even now, two days after, I can still smell the smoke -_-. I need to air this place out when I’m at school… *sigh*.

School just started so things are busy again. I’ll try and sneak in some translations here and there, but it’ll be slower. I mean it this time. Seriously. xD

Chapter 16 xD. (Btw, isn’t that doggy cute? I think he’s adorable).

So, my head’s kind of aching right now from rushing this and lack of sleep, but it was worth it, and pretty fun. Cae and I were bickering about stuff in this chapter (C. thought it was cheesy, I thought it was awesome) and throughout it all, we were like: “I can’t believe we’re working through it so fast!”

Urgh, I keep trying to look for good gifs to post to make a funny post like Cae does, but every time I put one up, it blinks like a seizure-inducing murder-weapon, and just kills my head xD

I’m rambling. That was NOT meant to happen. Okay, *breathes* this is what I originally wanted to say:

Thank you all, so, so much for your kindness and support. It’s the reason why I accidentally turned my “oh, it’ll be another month before we start chapter 16” into a lie. Look at that xD. It’s already out. I love reading your comments, and chatting with you guys. I adored the fanart that we were so lucky to receive. So here is the thank you from Cae and me. I hope you enjoy it!

Status Update: Good News~ ;P

Hi all!

Thank you for all your comments and support! … Even with our badness with updating hahaha.

So, mostly out of guilt, we worked like madmen and finished this chapter waaaay before the projected date of release. I’m kinda like this:

right now. xD. I think I made C and I go through 15 pages today. Sooooo tired haha.

This chapter had less speech bubbles, so the majority of the heavy-lifting went to C. So all hail our savior Cae!

Unfortunately, our magnificent editor, who also doubles as the proofreader, went to bed already (timezones and whatnot), so the actual chapter won’t be released until tomorrow when C wakes up. But hey, at least it’s 20 days earlier! (… wow I must be tired. I was typing out “20 years earlier” before I caught myself hahaha).

The new school year is starting on Monday, and I’m starting to plan out the year so I don’t think we’ll do Chapter 16 soon. We’ll see. >_> Comments help keep our motivation up so come keep us company~ ❤

Chapter 15 – Officially started! REJOICE MY LOVELY READERS! *Cackles*

Hi all!

I’m not brazenly pretending that I haven’t been MIA for forever and a day… *shifty eyes*.

I’ve gotten used to life in Japan. It’s super interesting here. For example, Japan is so technologically advanced and yet most people (at least in kyushu) don’t know computers at all. My students (adorable and super smart) drag and highlight and click. They don’t know any key commands. And when I show them print screen they’re mindblown. It’s so fun.

Another interesting thing is that they have no central heating system. Each classroom has its own designated aircons (that also double as heaters). So you step out of the teacher’s office (the classroom’s are the students’. Not the teachers’. The teacher’s base is the shared teacher’s office), and you freeze your butt off in the halls. As you pass other teachers, the greeting exchanged is: “It’s soooo cold isn’t it?” “Yes, it is! It’s soooo cold!”. And a shared smile. It’s awesome in a killer way haha.

I just got back from a two day English camp that I co-led. It was so brilliant! But by the time I got back, I was dead. Seriously dehydrated to the point where I was nauseous on the whole bus ride back. By the time I stepped off the bus, my Japanese coworkers who had come out to meet us immediately commented with “Are you tired?”

When I responded with “You can tell?!” They nodded so emphatically and laughed. xD I must’ve looked like this…

In any case, I didn’t mean to spill my life story haha. This is the important part of the post ;P

Status Update

I’ve officially started cleaning the cover page. It’s almost done. I’ll start translating this week while the students are on spring break. I’ll try and blitz it as much as possible but we’ll see how fast we can get this done. Cae’s unfortunately busy this week too…

Fingers crossed that we’ll have this out for you before end of April ^_^

Delay in Release; sorry!

Dear all,

Rest assured, even though I’m MIA, I’m actually doing work behind the scenes xD. Kinda… maybe… when I’m not procrastinating, or dressing up as Santa (beard and all) and surprising the heck out of my high school kids xD.

There are around 12 pages left? It shouldn’t take too much longer. No more than a week max, but most likely a couple of days.

In any case, I’m hoping that you’re all having a wonderful holiday season~ Lots of winter (or summer, depending on your hemisphere) fun!
